Cooperation programmes – Peru
SECO – Economic development cooperation
Peru is a priority country of SECO's economic development cooperation and Switzerland's third most important trade partner in Latin America. With a rich history of political complexity and economic growth, Peru still faces significant challenges in a rapidly changing global landscape, including persistent poverty and inequality, high informality, the impact of climate change and the need to strengthen public institutions for sustainable development. The Cooperation Programme 2025-2028 aims to support Peru's sustainable economic growth by aligning with OECD standards and ensuring that development is effective, inclusive and responsive to the country's unique challenges.

SDC Regional Thematic Hub Lima – Environmental and Humanitarian Cooperation
The SDC is the Swiss international cooperation agency responsible for development cooperation and cooperation with Eastern Europe, as well as for Swiss humanitarian aid programmes. It seeks to reduce poverty and mitigate global risks. It promotes economic and state self-management, contributes to improving production conditions, helps solve environmental problems and promotes better health management, basing its commitment on the 2030 Agenda.
The SDC's Regional Thematic Hub for Latin America and the Caribbean based in Lima focuses its work on three lines of action:
- Climate Change and Environment
- Water
- Disaster Risk Management and Humanitarian response in case of disasters
The Hub-team supports Swiss representations in the region in the above-mentioned themes, ensures a monitoring of regional trends and risks and participates in key multilateral thematic events (regional water conference, global climate change CoP, etc.). Several projects are directly managed by the Regional Thematic Hub with partners such as governments, regional bodies, multilateral organisations, private sectors or NGOs. These are typically projects with innovative approaches where Switzerland can offer its expertise (mountain ecosystems, early-warning systems, meteorological services) facilitating knowledge exchange between countries and organisations for an increased impact.
The Hub Lima also provides Humanitarian response in case of disasters (earthquakes, floods, forest fires) through the mobilisation of a regional group of experts (GIAR, Grupo de Intervención y Apoyo Rápido) and contribution to NGOs partners, in coordination with the Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit at Headquarters.
